tello runs directories of places. Each directory covers one kind of place and has its own address.

  Explore volcanoes worldwide — by elevation, type, and last eruption. Sourced and kept in sync from Wikipedia.

• Waterfalls

  Explore thousands of waterfalls worldwide — by height, type, and country. Sourced and kept in sync from Wikipedia.

• Zoos & Aquariums

  Explore zoos and aquariums worldwide — filter by the animals they host, size, visitors and accreditation. Sourced and kept in sync from Wikipedia.

Where the information comes from

Place descriptions and facts come from Wikipedia and are available under the CC BY-SA licence. Photos come from Wikimedia Commons. Maps use Leaflet with OpenStreetMap tiles served from tile.openstreetmap.org. Some place pages embed YouTube videos from youtube.com/embed.

Accounts and favorites

You can create an account. tello stores your name, your email address, a hashed password, and the places you mark as favorites. The iPhone app can sign you in with Apple, which stores an Apple user id. You can ask for your account and your favorites to be deleted by writing to [email protected].

Advertising

The site shows ads from Google AdSense. Cloudflare serves the site and can cache pages. The privacy policy explains how data and cookies are used.
